Ready To Embrace the Cold? These Are the Best Cold-Weather Vacations

Although summer is when most people pack their bags and go on vacations, the winter months aren’t bad either. However, it all depends on where you’re going; many places are unenjoyable during winter, while others will give you a memorable cold-weather getaway. So we’ve done our research to bring you five of the best destinations for a winter vacation.

Lyon, France

This French city is located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its famous Festival of Lights will be the highlight of your trip to this lively city. Every winter, France celebrates Mother Mary with the Lyonnaise tradition, where every house places candles on the outsides of their windows.

These candles create a beautiful glow across the city. You can also expect light shows at the Basilica of Fourvière and the Place des Terreaux- it’s a sight worth seeing. You can’t go wrong with candles on a winter night.

Harbin City, China

Nicknamed the ‘Ice City,’ Harbin is known for its long and cold winters. Can you imagine the snow season lasting for almost half a year? It’s probably even pointless to say, but winter is a time when the city truly shines.

Because of the prolonged colder weather, there are plenty of chilly activities to enjoy, from skiing at their famous Yabuli Ski Resort to attending the annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, which lasts an entire month!

The Scottish Highlands

Whether you’re interested in a pilgrimage to Loch Ness or prefer to hike through Cairngorms National Park (the U.K.’s largest), the Scottish Highlands is a picturesque destination in the winter. There are many fascinating locations here.

You could stay at the Fife Arms, a former Victorian inn in Braemar town, where the Highland Games are hosted in September. Alternatively, you could make an itinerary of the local castles. You’ll always be involved in one activity or another.

Condon, Montana

Condon’s unincorporated, laid-back, and quiet community is the perfect place to chill. It is an escape from the usual bustling life- you can indulge in a cool, cozy respite. You’ll be glad you did.

It doesn’t matter if it starts and ends at Holland Peak Ranch; a vacation in this location is a sure bet. The dreamy retreat, comprising three luxury residences and more than 1,000 acres of dramatic prairies, is an all-star spot, especially as the temperatures get cooler.

Mount Cayambe, Ecuador

Mt. Cayambe is the famous permanently snow-capped volcano located in the Ecuadorian Andes. You may have heard that it’s the only point on the equator covered in snow- and it’s true!
